Single Speed Crankset?

I have a mountain bike that I would like to use for dirt jumping and was wondering if converting the front crankset to a single chain ring would improve the bike for the type of riding I want. At some angles wouldn’t the chain rub (chain guide?)? And if you have any other suggestions to improve a dirt jumping bike that would be great. Thanks.

yea at some angles the chain would rub against the guide. usually with a single chain ring, also with the the middle ring of a triple set, it can go through any amount of gears as long as the chain ring isn’t too big or small. seeing that you may have a particular style, comes with finding the cassette that matches well with your crank.

but for now you may just want to find a good riding range with your single and work with that for now.

since you are going for those jumps i suggest you have everything secure and locked down, keep your bike rock solid with a sturdy suspension and watch for those fractures and cracks you b/c we all know those are just asking for trouble.
